The Big Deal with Genuine Parts & Accessories

Genuine parts and accessories are specifically designed and crafted by the manufacturer for your particular vehicle in order to optimise performance and keep your car running for as long as possible. Integral components of your car must be rigorously tested to ensure it is high quality and meets safety and performance standards.

Genuine parts and accessories are specifically designed and crafted by the manufacturer for your particular vehicle in order to optimise performance and keep your car running for as long as possible. Integral components of your car must be rigorously tested to ensure it is high quality and meets safety and performance standards.

If your car needs replacement parts following a collision or just from wear and tear, it’s essential to get genuine parts and accessories fitted that are approved by your vehicle’s manufacturer and covered by their warranty. You can only guarantee you will get genuine parts by sourcing them through the vehicle manufacturer's authorised supply chain. Using anything else means you are taking a risk.

The Problem with Non-Genuine Parts

When you need a part replaced, you can use genuine parts or opt for the cheaper alternative - non-genuine parts. These are designed to look the same and function the same as genuine parts, but are not manufactured or approved by the manufacturer's engineers to be fitted to their cars.

There are different types of non-genuine parts, including:

● Aftermarket - These are imitations of genuine parts produced by another company, but have not been approved or tested by the vehicle’s manufacturer.

● Parallel parts - These may have been made by the manufacturer or with its approval, but are not necessarily produced for Australian vehicles and have somehow entered the country. These parts have not come through the correct supply chain and may not fit Australian vehicles safely or function properly in Australian conditions.

● Salvaged parts - These have been removed from a damaged vehicle and ‘cleaned up’ for use in the repair of other vehicles. These parts may have been damaged in the accident, sustained wear and tear from previous use or have degraded while sitting outside in a wrecker’s yard. There is also no guarantee the part was genuine without knowing the full history of the vehicle.

● Counterfeit parts - Illegal imitations sold as genuine parts. They can be an enormous safety risk as they are poorly produced and are made using low quality materials.

Regardless of which category they fall into, non-genuine parts just can’t promise the same quality and safety attributes that come with a genuine part, no matter how much the mechanic may try to convince you otherwise.

Benefits of Using Genuine Parts and Accessories

When you opt for genuine parts and accessories, you can be sure that they meet the exacting standards achieved when designing and manufacturing your vehicle in the factory. This ensures it works better for longer with genuine parts built precisely for what it was intended to do.

Using genuine parts and accessories keeps your car original, reliable and durable as well as ensuring its safety, with parts you know meet the Australian Design Regulations (ADR). When you insist on genuine parts to be fitted, you maintain the resale value of your vehicle and avoid jeopardising your warranty in anyway.
